President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged words Wednesday after Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey.

| AP Photo Comey has not been seen since the president fired him in May.

Comey had been overseeing the investigation into the Russian government’s election meddling, including possible ties between Trump associates and the Kremlin.

Trump tweeted that he was firing Comey for what he said was his “unprecedented interference in the election” and “the handling of the investigation.”

He did not elaborate on what exactly he thought Comey had done wrong.

Russia denies interfering in the 2016 election and has dismissed the allegations.
